Nick Diaz

Born on August 2nd, 1983, Nick Diaz grew up in Stockton, California. An avid fan of the martial arts, he was inspired by Royce Gracie in the early days of the UFC. At the age of 16 he began to train with Cesar Gracie MMA fighter Steve Heath. Heath introduced him to Cesar and the rest of the camp where Diaz would regularly commute to train. Upon turning 18 Diaz was thrust into the sport of MMA where he won Championships in the IFC and WEC. He was recruited to the UFC at the age of 20 where he quickly became a fan favorite and delivered one of the UFC’s most memorable upsets when he defeated UFC slugger Robbie Lawler with a shocking TKO. Diaz would later submit the then #1 lightweight fighter in the world, Takanori Gomi, with the rarely used “gogoplata”. This fight became a classic in the world of MMA and secured Diaz’s place as an MMA legend.
His confrontations with various State Athletic Commissions and out of the cage melees with various fighters made him a polarizing figure and definitive anti-hero. Diaz would later sign with the EliteXC organization where he fought at lightweight(160lbs). He enjoyed moderate success but lost his sole championship fight due to cuts in his fight with KJ Noons. When EliteXC went defunct he signed with Strikeforce. There he faced Frank Shamrock at a catchweight of 180lbs. Few gave Diaz a chance at defeating Shamrock, citing the size difference between the two. Diaz once again proved his critics wrong and delivered a beating to Shamrock that convinced him to retire.
In 2009 Diaz became the Strikeforce Welterweight Champion and later avenged the sole blemish on his record of the last 4 years when he defeated KJ Noons in a highly anticipated rematch.Today he continues as one of the sports most famous and intriguing fighters.
Nate Diaz
Nathan Diaz was born on April 16, 1985. Raised in Stockton, California, Nathan began training in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu at the age of 14 at the urging of his older brother Nick. He would later add boxing to his resume, winning Stockton’s Tough Man Competition. At 18, Nathan followed in Nick’s footsteps and began his MMA career. Thrust into the world of fighting, Nathan fought in some of the world’s top organizations, including Pancrase, the WEC, and Strikeforce before making his way into the UFC via the The Ultimate Fighter Show on Spike. There he would come out on top, defeating a field of 16 fighters. Fighting in the UFC, Diaz would go on to attain a record amount of bonuses for “fight of the night” or “submission of the night” honors.
His come from behind wins made him a fan favorite and he has never lost a 3rd round in the UFC. All of his losses in the organization had his opponents barely surviving a 3rd round, making it clear that he truly is the fighter that can only lose a decision due to the time running out. Diaz now competes at light weight and welter weight and is only getting better.
